On January 14, 2022, he died of a massive heart attack at his residence in Butler Colony, Lucknow District, Uttar Pradesh. Following his passing, a number of Indian politicians and news reporters shared his grief. NDTV’s Alok Pandey tweeted,

Sharing this with deep pain, shock and numbness. @kamalkhan_NDTV sir, our long time Lucknow bureau chief, rock solid journalist, someone we all admire for his blunt yet poetic reporting, passed away this morning. I will share more details when they become available.”

Naved Shikoh, a senior journalist from Lucknow, said:

NDTV’s Kamal Khan passes away. Veteran NDTV journalist Kamal Khan is no more. He died of a heart attack early this morning at his Butler Palace residence in Lucknow. He was associated with the NDA as Head of the UP for over two decades. Television is journalism, before that I had worked in all the English-Hindi newspapers in Lucknow. Ruchi Kumar, wife of Kamal Khan Sahab, is the political editor of India TV. The favorite of the country and the world, Kamal Khan really made his own identity with amazing journalism. Hardly any television journalist has the sweetness of the tongue, the choice of words, the pronunciation and the captivating script like him. If Ravish Kumar is the diamond of NDTV as a presenter, Kamal was the jewel of this channel as a journalist. Seeing his PTC (Piece to Camera) in any news package, viewers’ eyes used to be fixed on the TV screen. God can also know Kamal Bhai’s language, tone, alphabet and script. He loved justice and reward, and called them in advance. Inna Lillahi and Inna Ilahi Rajioon!”

TV journalist Rajdeep Sardesai said:

Terribly sad news to report this morning. Kamal Khan, the excellent reporter for Lucknow NDTV and a dear friend, passed away this morning. I will miss you so much, my friend, and our long talks. How many memories! Devastated. Om shanti.”

The leader of the Supriya Shrine Congress and former journalist tweeted:

Shocked to learn of the sudden disappearance of @kamalkhan_NDTV. Rock solid journalist, great human being.”

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said:

The news of the sudden passing of Kamal Khan, a well-known and eminent television journalist associated with NDTV, is a very sad and irreparable loss for the world of journalism. My deepest condolences to his family and all his loved ones. May nature give everyone the strength to bear this pain, wishing for such a nature.
