Asha Singh’s husband, Surendra Singh aka Pappu, was allegedly beaten by police in Sengar and 10 others on April 3, 2018 in connection with a bogus illegal weapons case. Surendra Singh later died on April 9, 2018 while being treated at a hospital.

Taking note of a letter written by the victim and her family to the CJI on August 1, 2019, the higher court transferred the cases related to the rape case to Delhi and ordered the lower court to complete it within 45 days.

Trial and Condemnation

At the Tis Hazari court in Delhi, a daily trial began on August 5, 2019. The victim was flown from King George’s Medical College in Lucknow to AIIMS Trauma Center in New Delhi. The trial court ordered the Delhi Women’s Commission to relocate the victim and her family to a rented apartment in Delhi on December 6, 2019 after she was discharged from AIIMS in New Delhi on September 25, 2019. Former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar was convicted on December 16, 2019, and on December 20, 2019 he was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 25 lakh.
